Summer sun means summer run?
The course is now in full bloom and looking as good as it will all year. It's also playing very narrow from the tee and you'll have to be mentally strong when teeing up on most of the holes on our back nine, but have you also noticed the extra bounce and roll with your shots? If so what have you done to your course management to make allowances for those longer drives and hard bouncing wedge shots?
The 12th hole is a perfect example, as a short par four it really wouldn't matter to much what you tee off with in the winter, as the chance of running out of fairway would be slim for most and the super soft fairways would grab the ones bouncing into the trees. Come the summer however it's completely different, any shot with a driver/fairway metal other than straight at the green has a good chance of bouncing off the fairway then suddenly you are in the lap of the gods.
So try this next time you're playing if you're not already doing so. Go with the hybrid or long iron off the tee for accuracy and I'm sure you will add more consistency to your game. It's also a lot easier to stop and spin the ball on the green from a fairway lie than a fluffy one. Remember the old saying, "there's plenty of long hitters in the woods".
