If you've been paying attention to the recent newsletters, the topic has been "Self Analysis" of your golf game and following on with a plan of improving your worst bits first. Well a member recently showed me four of his scorecards for scrutiny and together we worked out an average covering inaccurate driving, missing the green with a short club and three putting. Now setting handicap and course conditions to one side the findings were as follows;
- Lost balls per round were two due to driving inaccuracy.
- Greens missed with a short club in his hands were six per round.
- Three putts per round were four.
From the findings, short game was his biggest failing and the golfer frustratingly finding shots either going too long or simply falling way short of the green. Now from the results we have since addressed his swing faults/fixes and he now has an eight week practice plan to reduce his average short game inadequacies from six shots to two per round. That's a saving of four shots off his handicap long term and yes this is a very realistic goal to achieve.

Golf Course Conditions and Information
After pretty quiet weather conditions up to the end of January, winter has finally caught us up with 100mm of rain delivered to the golf course last week which has left the bottom end of the 18 hole course teetering on closure from time-to-time to prevent further damage. No doubt conditions will improve with drier weather, but in a period of uncertainty with course availability it is always a good idea to enquire ahead.
Each day the green staff inspect both golf courses at first light (around 7.00am - 7.30am) and then inform the pro shop of how many holes are open and how many temporary greens there are in play.
